Prosecutor General: Each 20th case against business illegal
MOSCOW, Jun 17 (PRIME) -- The Prosecutor General’s Office registers a plenty of criminal cases against businesses that have been initiated illegally, head of the authority told Russia’s Federation Council, the parliament’s upper house, on Wednesday.
“The problem of pressure on businesses by the law enforcement bodies is still urgent. Prosecutors and directors of the investigative authorities continue to reveal groundless initiations of criminal cases – 190 such cases in 2019, criminal prosecution against entrepreneurs, placement in detention (5% of the rulings),” he said.
Krasnov said that the state of the Russian business environment cannot be called satisfactory as tens of thousands of business rights’ infringements are registered every year including 187,000 such violations in 2019.
Another problem is non-payments to businesses under state contracts by regional authorities, the prosecutor also said, suggesting stricter responsibility for such actions, and using the parameter to appraise regional governors’ work.
The debt to businesses under state contract amounted to 26 billion rubles in 2019, and over 146 billion rubles in the past four years and a half, he added.
Krasnov also said that the Prosecutor General’s Office has uncovered safety infringements in 400 aircraft of 14 Russian airlines.
He also said that the authority will check the ways airlines spend state subsidies received to fight the consequences of the coronavirus epidemic.
